Ivan Alexiev, Mayor of Pomorie Municipality
Pomorie Lake is the pride of Pomorie residents, known not only throughout Bulgaria but also the world for its healing possibilities, its lye and mud, and its salt and birds. Today, the lake is facing a number of problems that need to be urgently solved if we want the salt to be extracted from here, mud to retain its healing properties and Pomorie to continue to be a resort of national spa importance. In recent years, salt extraction has fallen dramatically (from 12 000 to 4 000 tonnes) and not a tonne of salt has been extracted since 2021 because of low profitability.
In order to find out what the youth of Pomorie (and not only) think about the lake and its future, and also to draw people's attention to this wonderful place and its care, the Life for Pomorie Lagoon Project is organizing a youth contest.
"Fresh or salty is the future of Lake Pomorie?", dedicated to the Natura 2000 Day (21 May 2023).
"We invite you to illustrate, describe, film, and tell anything that excites you about Pomorie Lake and you think is important and worth sharing with all of us. Your opinion matters and will reach the people and institutions who are concerned about its protection. So let's hear it!" the organizers invite.
