LAKE POMORIE ADVISORY COUNCIL

08/03/2023
We are pleased to invite you to the second meeting of the Pomorie Lake Advisory Council, which we established at the end of 2021 in Pomorie. Thanks to the assistance of the Municipality of Pomorie, the meeting will be held in the most appropriate place in the town - the Salt Museum. We look forward to seeing you on 15 March (Wednesday) at 10.00. The theme of the meeting is "Challenges facing Pomorie Lake and stakeholder involvement".

The Advisory Board is an informal structure that meets once a year and has an advisory role on the sustainable management of the lake and recommendations to improve conditions and increase the benefits of the lake to the local population and to the community. The main focus is the relationship between the natural and economic values of Lake Pomorie and the Natura 2000 areas in which it falls.

The challenges facing the lake continue today, so we need to discuss the future of the lake related to the reduced salinity of the waters and the empty pools, the halted salt extraction that supports the healing mud formation process, the changing species composition in the lagoon, etc. We would like to present to you what we have undertaken in the framework of our LIFE project "Life for Pomorie Lagoon" and to get the opinion of all participants. The meeting will last 2 hours.

The members of the council are representatives of the state and local authorities such as the Municipality of Pomorie, Regional Administration of Burgas, Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water Burgas, scientific, public and environmental organizations, as well as businesses in the face of hotels and sanatoriums in Pomorie that use products from the lake, Pomorie Saltworks Ltd, farmers, etc.

Especially for Council will present Ms Lorena Segura from the French Institute for Wetland Research - "Tour de Valat", who will present the results of a study we conducted in the area of Pomorie and online - "Monitoring socio-economic impacts and ecosystem services". She will also share Tour de Valat's experience of engaging different stakeholders in the conservation of valuable wetlands.

The Advisory Council is organised by the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation (BBF) within the framework of the LIFE for Pomorie Lagoon project (LIFE19 NAT/BG/000804), co-funded by the EU LIFE Programme.
